Paying for your trip1 booking with MetaMask
trip1 lets you book from over 3 million hotels in 190+ countries and pay with 50+ cryptocurrencies through CoinGate (trip1's crypto payment provider). MetaMask is a self-custody wallet, and it connects to the CoinGate checkout with WalletConnect, so you approve the payment in MetaMask instead of copying an address.
How to pay with MetaMask - step by step
Step 1: Choose Pay with crypto at checkout
Pick your hotel, room and dates on trip1, add your guest details and select Pay with crypto. The CoinGate window opens with a countdown timer, and your rate stays locked while it runs.
Step 2: Select your coin and network
Choose the coin you hold in MetaMask, such as ETH or USDC, then pick the network where those funds actually sit. USDC on Base and USDC on Ethereum are separate balances, so check MetaMask's network selector first.
Step 3: Connect MetaMask with WalletConnect
Choose WalletConnect and select MetaMask. On a computer, scan the QR code with the MetaMask mobile app. On your phone, MetaMask opens and asks you to approve the connection.
Step 4: Check the amount and gas fee
MetaMask shows the exact invoice amount plus an estimated network fee. Make sure you hold enough of the native coin for gas - ETH on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base and Optimism, BNB on BNB Smart Chain, or POL on Polygon.
Step 5: Confirm before the timer ends
Tap Confirm while the countdown is still running. If CoinGate asks for a one-time Transfer of Funds Regulation (TFR) form, fill it in - it's a standard EU compliance step.
Step 6: Wait for your booking confirmation
Once the transaction confirms on-chain, trip1 confirms your booking and emails you the details. Layer 2 networks such as Arbitrum and Base usually confirm within a few minutes and charge lower gas than Ethereum.
Prefer to send manually?
You can also choose the manual option, copy the address and exact amount, and send from MetaMask with the Send button. This also works if you've connected a Ledger to MetaMask - see paying from a Ledger hardware wallet. Paying with SOL? Read the Solana payment guide first, because SOL invoices need a memo.
Important: Always send on the exact network shown in the CoinGate window. Crypto sent on the wrong network cannot be reversed, and trip1 cannot recover those funds.
Paying for a hotel with MetaMask - FAQ
Yes. On trip1 you choose Pay with crypto, connect MetaMask through WalletConnect in the CoinGate window, and approve the payment in the app.
Use the network where your funds already sit and select the same one in the CoinGate window. Arbitrum, Base and Optimism usually have lower gas fees than Ethereum.
Gas is paid in the network's native coin, not in USDC. On Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base and Optimism that is ETH, and on Polygon it is POL.
Unlock MetaMask, make sure it is on the right network, and try connecting again. If it still doesn't appear, choose the manual option and send the exact amount to the address shown.
The CoinGate invoice lets you top up the missing amount or request a refund. Always check the amount in MetaMask matches the invoice before you confirm.
