07800 Ibiza, Illes Balears, Spain
An evening walk through Dalt Vila is one of the most atmospheric things to do in Ibiza for couples. The fortified old town received UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999 and its upper alleyways empty out significantly after the day-tripper buses leave around 6 PM. Enter through the Portal de ses Taules gate and follow the spiral route up past Moorish archways, small plazas with fig trees, and candlelit restaurant terraces to the cathedral at the summit. The views over the harbour with the ferry lights and moored yachts are best at dusk.
Several restaurants with outdoor terraces are built into the old ramparts - booking ahead for dinner here during July and August is essential, but the walk itself is always free. The rampart promenade around the outside of the walls offers 360-degree views of the bay, the salt flats to the south, and the open sea to the west.
Pro Tip: Book a table at one of the terrace restaurants above the Placa de Vila for the last seating (around 9:30 PM in summer) and you'll catch the harbour lights below as you eat. Reservations open about two weeks ahead - don't leave it until the day before in August.
