La Rambla, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
La Rambla is the 1.2 km boulevard that runs from Plaça de Catalunya down to the Columbus monument at the port, and for most of the year locals avoid it. From 4 to 12 October 2026, the Festa Major de la Rambla, also called the Festes del Roser after the patron saint of the neighbouring Raval, briefly hands it back to them.
The programme is free and built around the Rambla's flower stall tradition: floral art workshops, urban sketching, guided tours, a charity paella contest, a craft fair and concerts. Giants, castellers and sardana dancing appear in the Raval side of the celebrations. One of the most popular moments is the mushroom tasting at La Boqueria, which marks the start of the autumn mushroom season.
La Boqueria, officially the Mercat de Sant Josep, is worth a visit any October morning for rovellons and ceps from the Catalan forests, which appear on market stalls and tapas-bar counters from early autumn.
Pro Tip: Check the festival programme on the Amics de la Rambla website for the Boqueria mushroom tasting date, arrive early, then walk into the Raval for lunch. Visit La Boqueria before 10:00 on other days, when the stalls serve locals rather than tour groups.
