Henderson Waves opened on 10 May 2008 and still holds the title of Singapore's highest pedestrian bridge, carrying walkers 36 metres above Henderson Road on a deck 274 metres long and eight metres wide. The design came out of a competition won by RSP Architects Planners & Engineers with IJP Architects, and the curved timber ribs form seven alcoves you can sit inside. It links Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park as the centrepiece of the Southern Ridges, and it was shortlisted at the first World Architecture Festival Awards in 2008.
The bridge is open around the clock and costs nothing, and its lighting runs from 19:00 to 02:00 daily, which makes it a genuine alternative to a rooftop side event during conference week. It holds up in the morning too. Telok Blangah Hill Park never closes, sits roughly seven kilometres west of the convention centre, and at 07:00 you will share the deck with runners rather than delegates. Check the National Parks Board notices before committing to the full ridge walk: the eastern section of Forest Walk, the Earth Trail and the northern loop of Telok Blangah Green were closed for slope repairs scheduled to finish by 31 July 2026, and a footpath below the Therapeutic Garden stays shut until 31 March 2028.
Getting here is the weak point. No station sits at the bridge. Telok Blangah on the Circle Line is about 1.2 kilometres away, but the last stretch climbs steadily, so allow 20 to 25 minutes and expect to arrive damp in October humidity.
Pro Tip: Take the Circle Line to Telok Blangah (CC28), climb through Telok Blangah Hill Park, cross the bridge to Mount Faber and walk down to HarbourFront (NE1/CC29) instead of doubling back. The descent is far easier than the climb, and the whole loop runs about 90 minutes.
