The Latvian National Museum of Art (Latvijas Nacionalais makslas muzejs) holds the largest collection of national art in the Baltics, with over 52,000 works from the mid-18th century onward. The building itself is a Baltic neoclassical landmark - completed in 1905 by German architect Wilhelm Neumann and one of the earliest purpose-built museum buildings in the Russian Empire. The building sits inside Esplanade Park, a green square that also includes the Nativity Cathedral and is a five-minute walk from the Art Nouveau District.
