The Musee Picasso Paris occupies the Hotel Sale, a mansion built between 1656 and 1659 by the architect Jean Boullier, with sculpture by the Marsy brothers and Martin Desjardins. The collection runs to more than 5,000 works: paintings, sculpture, drawings, ceramics, prints and notebooks, plus Picasso's archives. A 52 million euro renovation reopened it on 25 October 2014, nearly tripling the exhibition floor by moving staff offices out.
This is the Marais anchor. The gallery cluster on rue de Turenne, rue Debelleyme and the streets between them schedules its openings for Art Basel Paris week, and almost all of them are free to walk into, most starting late afternoon. Doing the museum first and the galleries after is the right order, because the Hotel Sale opens at 9:30, earlier than anything else in this guide. Two things to know. Admission is 16 euros, and the free first Sunday of the month falls on 4 October 2026, so there is no free day inside the 23 to 25 October window. The rooms are small former salons, and by Sunday afternoon on the fair's closing day the Marais is uncomfortable.
Metro line 8 to Saint-Sebastien - Froissart is the closest stop, 400 m and about five minutes; line 1 to Saint-Paul is 850 m, roughly ten minutes. Hours are 9:30 to 18:00 Tuesday to Sunday, last admission 17:15, closed Mondays. The audioguide is 5 euros, 4 reduced. Under-18s and EU residents under 26 enter free.
Pro Tip: Be on rue de Thorigny for the 9:30 opening on Saturday 24 October and you will be out by 11:30, which is exactly when the rue de Turenne and rue Debelleyme galleries start unlocking their doors for the free art-week openings.
