Tbilisi Travel Facts
Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia, set in a steep-sided valley along the Mtkvari river. Its old town layers wooden balconied houses, brick caravanserais, Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and Persian-built sulphur bathhouses within walking distance of each other.
The city has been a crossroads on the Silk Road for over 1,500 years, and the mix of cultures still shows up in the cuisine, the languages overheard in cafes, and the contrast between Soviet apartment blocks, modern glass bridges, and 4th-century basilicas. Travellers come for the wine, the supra (traditional feast), the hipster neighbourhoods around Fabrika, and the easy access to the Caucasus mountains.

Tbilisi Destination FAQ
May, June, September, and October offer mild temperatures and clear skies. July and August can be very hot in the city - 35 C is common - so most locals head to the mountains. November to March is colder but quieter and cheaper, with snow possible in surrounding areas.
Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) is around 17 km southeast of the centre. Bolt or Yandex Go apps offer fixed-price rides for around 15-20 GEL (25 min). Bus 37 runs to Freedom Square and Avlabari for 1 GEL but takes about 35 minutes.
The old town and Sololaki are best on foot, with the Narikala fortress reachable by cable car. The metro has two lines and uses a Metromoney card, also valid on buses and the cable car. Bolt taxi rides are inexpensive for longer hops.
Two full days cover the old town, the sulphur baths, Fabrika, and Mtatsminda. With 4-5 days you can add day trips to Mtskheta and Gori, the wine region of Kakheti, or the spectacular drive up to Kazbegi and the Caucasus.
Tbilisi is generally very safe, with low violent crime and a friendly attitude toward visitors. Take normal precautions in busy areas. Avoid the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are off limits to most foreigners.
On trip1, you can book hotels across Tbilisi and pay with over 50 cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDC. trip1 covers 3 million+ hotels in 190+ countries, making it easy to find and book accommodation with crypto.
