Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec and the cultural capital of French-speaking Canada. Set on an island in the St. Lawrence River, it pairs cobbled European streetscapes in Old Montreal with industrial-chic neighbourhoods like Mile End, Le Plateau, and Griffintown.

It is one of North America's strongest food cities - bagels, smoked meat, poutine, and a deep restaurant scene - and one of its biggest summer festival hubs, from Jazz Fest and Just for Jubilee to Osheaga. Mount Royal Park, the Notre-Dame Basilica, the underground city (RESO), and the Olympic Park round out the headline sights. Quebec City is about three hours northeast for an easy add-on.
