Hotels in Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a 50-kilometre stretch of cliff-backed coastline in Italy's Campania region, running south of the Sorrentine Peninsula along the Gulf of Salerno. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, it links pastel fishing villages, terraced lemon groves, and a corniche road that switchbacks high above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello are the best-known towns, while smaller settlements such as Atrani, Praiano, and Cetara reward travellers who slow down.

Getting around means working with the terrain. The single coastal road, the SS163 Amalfitana, is narrow, scenic, and frequently jammed between June and September, so many visitors lean on SITA Sud buses and seasonal ferries instead of driving. The nearest major gateway is Naples International Airport, roughly 60 kilometres north, with onward connections by car, bus, or ferry through Sorrento or Salerno.

The coast is busiest and priciest from late spring through early autumn, when the weather is warm and the sea is swimmable. Spring and September deliver the same views with thinner crowds, while winter is quiet and cooler and sees many hotels and restaurants close. Across food, lodging, and transport, expect to pay more here than in inland Campania.
