October to February is the best time to visit Jaipur. Daytime temperatures range from 15 to 27 degrees Celsius, making it comfortable to explore outdoor forts and palaces. November and December are particularly pleasant. Avoid April through June when temperatures regularly exceed 40 degrees Celsius.

Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is about 13 km from the city centre. Pre-paid taxis are available outside the arrivals hall and cost approximately 400-600 INR (4.50-6.50 EUR) to central Jaipur. The ride takes 25-35 minutes depending on traffic. You can also book an Ola or Uber from the airport for slightly lower fares.

Auto-rickshaws and ride-hailing apps like Ola and Uber are the most practical transport options. Auto-rickshaws are available everywhere - always negotiate the fare before boarding or insist on using the meter. A typical cross-city ride costs 100-200 INR (1-2 EUR). For visiting Amber Fort and Nahargarh Fort on the outskirts, hiring a car with driver for a half-day (around 1,500-2,000 INR / 17-22 EUR) is more efficient.

Two to three full days is ideal for Jaipur. This gives you one day for Amber Fort and the hilltop forts, one day for the Pink City area (City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar), and a third day for markets, step wells, and any remaining sights. If Jaipur is part of a Golden Triangle trip, two packed days can cover the major highlights.

Jaipur is generally safe for tourists. The main concerns are aggressive touts and overcharging by auto-rickshaw drivers near tourist sites. Use ride-hailing apps when possible, and be firm with vendors outside major attractions like Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal. Solo female travellers should take standard precautions, especially after dark - stick to well-lit areas and use Ola or Uber rather than flagging down transport on the street.

Ranthambore National Park is 180 km southeast of Jaipur and offers some of India's best chances of spotting wild Bengal tigers. The Chand Baori step well in Abhaneri (95 km east) is one of the deepest and most photogenic step wells in the country. Pushkar, 150 km southwest, is a sacred lake town known for its Brahma temple and colourful camel fair in November. All three can be done as day trips by hired car.
