Printable Stuttgart itinerary

Stuttgart's Cannstatter Volksfest returns for its 179th run from Friday 25 September to Sunday 11 October 2026, and the best beer tents at Cannstatter Volksfest are what most visitors end up planning their days around. A widely shared page still gives the dates as 26 September to 12 October and lists ten tents. Both are wrong. The official 2026 roster has exactly eight large tents, the Festzelte, and this guide covers all eight in order, opening with the 6,000-seat Wilhelmer's SchwabenWelt and closing with the timber-built Almhütte Royal.

Each entry gives you the brewery pouring inside, the reservation route and phone number, the food the kitchen is known for, and the practical detail that decides whether you get through the door. Entry to the Cannstatter Wasen grounds and to every tent is free. Tents shut their doors the moment they hit capacity, though, so a reservation is the only thing that guarantees admission, and reserved seats carry a minimum spend of roughly EUR 38 to 82 per person depending on the day and the seating area.

Transit is where most guides go wrong. The direct lines are the U11 and the U19, which stop at Cannstatter Wasen, about 250 m from the tent doors; the U1, U2, U13 and U16 stop at Mercedesstrasse, a kilometre away. On routing, give a Monday to Thursday lunchtime to the two or three tents you care most about, since the walk between any of them takes two or three minutes, and treat Friday and Saturday evenings as sessions you book weeks ahead or skip. Opening hours and the daily programme sit on the official festival site at cannstatter-volksfest.de. The Wasen is largely open ground between the tents, so check Stuttgart weather before a daytime session, because a wet Wednesday afternoon empties the beer gardens and fills the tents you had hoped to walk into. Visitors doing both autumn festivals usually run this against Munich, which is two and a quarter hours east by ICE. The hotels in Stuttgart near Bad Cannstatt station leave you two U-Bahn stops from the tent doors rather than a taxi ride across the city at midnight.

Wilhelmer's SchwabenWelt - The Biggest Tent on the Wasen

Wilhelmer's SchwabenWelt - The Biggest Tent on the Wasen

Michael Wilhelmer's SchwabenWelt is the largest tent on the Cannstatter Wasen, seating about 6,000 people across two floors with roughly 570 of those seats on the mezzanine gallery. Those are official figures, which is more than can be said for most of the lineup. The interior is built from old wood and reads like a Swabian inn scaled up rather than a hangar, and the upper level lets you see the band without standing on a bench.

Schwaben Bräu Volksfestbier is poured tank-fresh here, and two bars have nothing to do with beer at all: a champagne bar and the Ampulle craft-gin bar. Chef René Tepper's kitchen sends out Gockele, the Riesenspieß skewer and the Gourmet-Brettle sharing board. Reservations run through schwabenwelt.de or +49 711 664 19 400, and the two-floor layout means there is simply more bookable space here than anywhere else on the ground.

Pro Tip: Ask for the mezzanine when you book on schwabenwelt.de. Those roughly 570 seats sit above the crush on the main floor and are the first thing to go for Friday and Saturday evenings.

Göckelesmaier - The Only Tent Pouring Wulle

Göckelesmaier - The Only Tent Pouring Wulle

The Maier family tent is the only place on the Wasen serving WULLE Volksfestbier, brewed exclusively for it, and the name comes from the Swabian word for the half roast chicken that leaves the kitchen all day. Daniela and Karl Maier run a room that is modern without being a nightclub, and the daily 92 Frisbeers throw, when frisbees go out into the crowd, is the thing regulars time their afternoon around. Pork knuckle and the Wasen platter round out a kitchen built around that Gockele.

Göckelesmaier also publishes its minimum spend more openly than the rest, which makes it the best yardstick for what a reservation actually costs anywhere on the ground: a centre-tent table runs EUR 44.50 per person Sunday to Wednesday and EUR 73.10 on a Friday or Saturday evening, with loges at EUR 58.70 to EUR 99.70. Booking through goeckelesmaier.de adds a EUR 15 fee plus EUR 5 to 8 shipping, and centre tables are sold in blocks of five Sunday to Wednesday or ten Thursday to Saturday.

Pro Tip: Take a Sunday to Wednesday centre-tent table at EUR 44.50 per person. The identical table on a Friday or Saturday evening is EUR 73.10, needs a party of ten rather than five, and the frisbee throw happens either way.

WELLER'S Klauss & Klauss Dinkelacker Festzelt - Under New Management

WELLER'S Klauss & Klauss Dinkelacker Festzelt - Under New Management

The tent most people still call the Dinkelacker Festzelt has changed hands. WELLER Festbetriebe GmbH & Co. KG run it now, and the Klauss family, whose name stays in the title, no longer operate it. Anyone arriving with a guide that lists a separate Klauss & Klauss tent should know there is no second tent; it is this one.

Dinkelacker Volksfestbier is the single pour, brewed in Stuttgart. The room sits at the traditional end of the Wasen spectrum, closer to a long convivial lunch than a table-dancing party, which makes it the easiest of the eight to bring people who would rather not shout over a band for five hours. Reservations run on +49 711 6155 3535 and normally need a party of five, though some days open up to pairs. Sources from before the handover put the tent at around 5,500 seats; WELLER have published no confirmed figure, so treat that number as unofficial.

Pro Tip: Phone +49 711 6155 3535 and ask which of your possible dates fall on the two-person days before you go recruiting three more people. Sunday to Wednesday is where those slots turn up.

Sonja Merz - Five Breweries and the Easiest Booking

Sonja Merz - Five Breweries and the Easiest Booking

Sonja Merz seats about 4,800, one of only three capacities the festival publishes officially. It calls itself the tent with a heart, and the layout gives you somewhere to go when the main floor gets loud: the Spitzbuben Lodge is a club space inside the tent, the Schatzi Bar sits up on the roof, and the Almrausch après-ski area is new for this run.

Five beers are on rather than one: Dinkelacker, Stuttgarter Hofbräu, Schwaben Bräu, Fürstenberg and Wulle, a wider choice than any single-brewery tent on the ground. The booking rules are the other reason to start here. Reservations open from two people in some areas and five in others, through sonjamerzzelt.de or +49 711 68 68 111, which makes this the one realistic weekend table for a couple among eight tents that mostly want groups.

Pro Tip: Book the Schatzi Bar or the Almrausch area on sonjamerzzelt.de rather than a main-floor table, and do it before the end of August for any date inside the 25 September to 11 October run. Those are the areas where two people are enough.

U11 or U19 to Cannstatter Wasen, 250 m; S-Bahn to Bad Cannstatt station, about 1 km and under 10 minutes' walk

Wasenwirt - Das Partyzelt, and Where the Beer Price Is Known

Wasenwirt - Das Partyzelt, and Where the Beer Price Is Known

Das Partyzelt is the label Friedrich Weeber's Festzelt Zum Wasenwirt gives itself, and the gallery level running above the main floor exists so you can look down on exactly that. Weeber Festzeltbetrieb GmbH pour Dinkelacker alongside Stuttgarter Hofbräu, Schwaben Bräu, Fürstenberg and Wulle, so the beer list matches Sonja Merz for breadth.

This is also the tent where the 2026 Maß price is best attested: about EUR 14.80 including service. No official per-tent price list for the autumn festival had appeared as of early August, and the spring Frühlingsfest on this same ground ran EUR 14.40 to EUR 14.90, so budget for roughly EUR 14.80 to EUR 15.50 rather than treating a single figure as settled. Book through wasenwirt.de or +49 711 5595090. Older sources put the tent near 3,500 seats, which the operators have not confirmed.

Pro Tip: Arrive at noon on a Monday to Thursday, when the grounds open at 12:00 and the party crowd is still at work. You pay the same roughly EUR 14.80 a Maß and walk in without a reservation.

Cannstatter Wasen, Mercedesstrasse 50, 70372 Stuttgart
U11 or U19 to Cannstatter Wasen, about 250 m; the U14 to Mineralbäder leaves you a 1.4 km walk

Beim BENZ - Das Hofbräu Zelt, Not Grandls

Beim BENZ - Das Hofbräu Zelt, Not Grandls

If you turn up with a guide that sends you to Grandls Hofbräu Zelt, this is the tent you actually want. Marcel Benz has run the Hofbräu tent since 2022 and Grandls is no longer on the Wasen at all. Stuttgarter Hofbräu is on tap, including the Kapsele cabin beer, and for 2026 the stage has moved into the middle of the room as a 360-degree platform, so no table ends up stuck behind the band.

Beim BENZ is the first festival tent in Baden-Württemberg to earn Schmeck den Süden certification, which requires at least 80 per cent regional ingredients, and the roast chicken is what the kitchen is judged on. Theme nights carry the weekdays: Jester Monday, Club Tuesday and a VfB day for Stuttgart's football crowd. Reservations go through reservierung.beimbenz.de or +49 711 550 90 90. Capacity is not officially published, so ignore any number you see quoted for it.

Pro Tip: Book Jester Monday or Club Tuesday on reservierung.beimbenz.de instead of a weekend. The theme nights are the point of this tent, the minimum spend sits at the bottom of the EUR 38 to 82 range, and you will not be queuing outside a closed door.

U11 or U19 to Cannstatter Wasen, 250 m from the door; skip U13 and U16, which stop 1 km away at Mercedesstrasse

Fürstenbergzelt - Read the Ticket Small Print

Fürstenbergzelt - Read the Ticket Small Print

Jochen Mörz's tent is the one where the booking terms matter most. It opens daily at 17:00, adds a lunch service on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and on Friday and Saturday evenings it sells tickets that get you through the door without guaranteeing a seat. That is a different product from a table reservation and it catches people out every year.

Fürstenberg is the only beer poured, which is unusual on a ground where most large tents run four or five Stuttgart labels. The music programme leans on party bands with brass and folk sets rather than one house band all night, and Andreas Mörz's kitchen works through the Swabian canon properly: Schweinshaxe, Gockele, Käsespätzle and Maultaschen. Book at fuerstenbergzelt.de. The figure of around 4,200 seats gets quoted often, but Mörz Festzeltbetriebs GmbH have not confirmed it.

Pro Tip: A Friday or Saturday evening ticket from fuerstenbergzelt.de admits you and leaves you standing. For a seat at the weekend, book the Friday, Saturday or Sunday lunch service instead, which starts hours before the 17:00 evening opening.

Cannstatter Wasen, Mercedesstrasse 50, 70372 Stuttgart
U11 or U19 to Cannstatter Wasen, about 250 m; regional trains and S-Bahn to Bad Cannstatt station, roughly 1 km

Almhütte Royal - The Chalet That Is Not a Tent

Almhütte Royal - The Chalet That Is Not a Tent

Almhütte Royal is not a tent. It is a chalet assembled from historic Alpine timbers, holding up to 2,500 people, and it took the place of the Almhüttendorf that older lists still name. Stuttgarter Hofbräu arrives at the table in 10-litre wooden casks you tap yourself, which changes the rhythm of an afternoon: nobody waits on a server for the next round. The Herzl Bar sits on the panorama gallery above the floor and a royal sleigh hangs over the room.

The kitchen is run by the Stuttgarter Ratskeller and turns out roast onion and truffle-cheese Spätzle, with a daily special of pork and a half litre of beer at EUR 15.90. Booking is the catch. Friday and Saturday nights take groups of ten or more only, other days accept pairs, on 0800 711 2222 or almhuette-royal.de. At 2,500 this is the smallest of the eight, which is precisely why the doors close early on a busy Saturday.

Pro Tip: With fewer than ten in your party, take a Sunday to Thursday slot on 0800 711 2222; Friday and Saturday nights are groups of ten or more only. The EUR 15.90 pork and half-litre special is the cheapest full meal on this list.

Cannstatter Wasen, Mercedesstrasse 50, 70372 Stuttgart
U11 or U19 to Cannstatter Wasen, 250 m; bus 45 to Elwertstrasse, about 400 m

8 Best Beer Tents at Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart - FAQ

Friday 25 September to Sunday 11 October 2026, the festival's 179th run. Some widely shared pages give 26 September to 12 October, which is wrong; the official dates are on cannstatter-volksfest.de. The Landwirtschaftliches Hauptfest agricultural show runs alongside it from 27 September to 4 October, so that week is busier than the rest.

It depends on the evening you want. Wilhelmer's SchwabenWelt is the biggest, with about 6,000 seats; WELLER'S Dinkelacker Festzelt is the most traditional and relaxed; Wasenwirt calls itself the party tent; and at Almhütte Royal, a timber chalet, you tap your own 10-litre beer casks. For a couple booking a weekend, Sonja Merz is the most realistic, taking reservations from two people in some areas.

Yes, entry to the grounds and every tent is free, but tents close their doors once they are full and only a reservation guarantees a seat. Your best chance without one is a Monday to Thursday lunchtime, when the grounds open at 12:00. On Friday and Saturday evenings expect to be turned away from most tents, and Fürstenbergzelt's evening tickets get you in without a seat.

Reserved seats carry a minimum spend of about EUR 38 to 82 per person, depending on the day and the seating area. Göckelesmaier publishes the clearest example: EUR 44.50 per person Sunday to Wednesday at a centre-tent table and EUR 73.10 on a Friday or Saturday evening. On top of that, budget about EUR 14.80 to EUR 15.50 for a Maß of beer.

Not all of them, but bring some cash anyway. At SchwabenWelt, the largest tent, you redeem your reservation vouchers and can pay anything above them in cash or by card. Payment at other tents, food stalls and rides varies, and smaller purchases are often easier with cash.

Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart is smaller, more local and more of a funfair than Munich's Oktoberfest, though it is often called the second-largest beer festival in the world, with more than 4 million visitors a year. It pours Stuttgart beers such as Dinkelacker, Schwaben Bräu and Stuttgarter Hofbräu, and runs about a week later: 25 September to 11 October 2026, against Oktoberfest's 19 September to 4 October. Munich is two and a quarter hours away by ICE, so you can do both.
