The best time to visit Palermo is spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October), when the weather is warm but not scorching. Summer, especially July and August, is hot and humid and the city can feel busy and sultry, though it comes alive with festivals like Santa Rosalia in July. Winters are mild and quiet, making them good for sightseeing and enjoying the markets without crowds.
Palermo Falcone–Borsellino Airport (PMO) is about 35 km west of the city at Punta Raisi. The easiest connections are the Trinacria Express train and the Prestia e Comandè shuttle bus, both taking roughly 50 minutes to an hour and costing around €6 to €7. Taxis have a fixed fare of about €40 to €45 to the centre, and the coastal drive takes around 45 minutes.
The best way to explore central Palermo is on foot, as the historic core with its markets, churches, and palazzi is compact and walkable. Traffic and parking are challenging, so a car is more of a hindrance in the centre and better reserved for day trips to Monreale, Cefalù, or the beaches at Mondello.
