Palermo Falcone–Borsellino Airport (PMO) is about 35 km west of the city at Punta Raisi. The easiest connections are the Trinacria Express train and the Prestia e Comandè shuttle bus, both taking roughly 50 minutes to an hour and costing around €6 to €7. Taxis have a fixed fare of about €40 to €45 to the centre, and the coastal drive takes around 45 minutes.
The best way to explore central Palermo is on foot, as the historic core with its markets, churches, and palazzi is compact and walkable. AMAT buses and a small tram network cover the wider city, with single tickets around €1.40. Traffic and parking are challenging, so a car is more of a hindrance in the centre and better reserved for day trips to Monreale, Cefalù, or the beaches at Mondello.

Add a day for the beach town of Mondello or the seaside resort of Cefalù, and a longer stay lets you use Palermo as a base for exploring western Sicily.

Petty crime such as pickpocketing and bag-snatching is the main concern, particularly in crowded markets, on busy buses, and around the train station, so keep valuables secure and be alert in tourist areas.
