1Christmas Market in the Plaza del Pilar - The Heart of Christmas

The main Zaragoza Christmas market sets up in the Plaza del Pilar, between the Goya fountain and the Fountain of Hispanidad, with around 40 craft stalls selling decorations, nativity figures, gifts, textiles and food. Covered food and drink stalls serve churros, hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts.
In 2025, the market opened from 29 November to 6 January, from 11am to 10pm on weekdays and from 11am to midnight on Saturdays and public holidays, according to the City of Zaragoza. The square also hosts concerts, jota performances, choirs, puppet shows and workshops throughout the season.
The 2026 dates had not been announced at the time of writing; check the city's Christmas programme before you go.
2Belén de la Plaza del Pilar - One of Spain's Largest Nativity Scenes

The giant nativity scene (belén) in the Plaza del Pilar is the star attraction of Christmas in Zaragoza. Covering around 1,000 square metres, it is described by local media as the largest in Spain and draws around 300,000 visitors each year.
The nativity recreates scenes from the Christmas story with life-size figures, buildings and landscapes, and it is laid out as a walk-through route. In 2025, it opened on 29 November and stayed open until the Epiphany on 6 January.
Guided visits combining the nativity and the Basilica del Pilar have been offered by the city's tourist office in previous years.
3Ice Rink and Tubing Slope - Winter Fun by the Goya Fountain

The Plaza del Pilar becomes a winter playground during the Christmas season, with an ice rink and an inflatable tubing slope set up near the Goya fountain, offering spectacular views of the basilica. These attractions are especially popular with families.
A Christmas train, merry-go-rounds and children's activities add to the festive atmosphere, according to the city's programme. Most attractions charge a small fee, and they sit right beside the stalls of the Zaragoza Christmas market.
The square is also the setting for Zaragoza's New Year's Eve party, which begins at 11pm, and the Three Kings parade on 5 January, one of the highlights of the season.

4Basilica del Pilar - The Tower View over the Square

The Basilica del Pilar, one of Spain's most important places of pilgrimage, dominates the square with its colourful tiled domes and four tall towers. Inside, visitors can see frescoes by Goya and the revered statue of the Virgin of the Pillar.
One of the towers has a lift to a viewing platform, offering panoramic views over the Christmas market, the city and the Ebro river. The lift is ticketed, while entry to the basilica itself is free.
The nearby Puente de Piedra (Stone Bridge) offers a classic view of the basilica reflected in the river, especially beautiful at dusk, when the lights come on.
5Plaza Aragón Christmas Market - Local Artisans

Plaza Aragón, at the start of the Paseo de la Independencia, hosts a smaller Christmas market with local artisans selling handmade pieces, decorations and gifts. In 2025, it ran from 12 December to 6 January, with 23 stalls, according to local guide Zaragozala.
The market is a calmer alternative to the busy Plaza del Pilar, and the Paseo de la Independencia, one of the city's main shopping streets, is decorated with lights.
It is easy to walk between the two markets along the Paseo de la Independencia and Calle Alfonso I, making it an easy add-on to the main Zaragoza Christmas market.
