5 Best Things to Do in Orlando During Halloween Horror Nights
CEO and co-founder
This guide covers the 5 best things to do in Orlando during Halloween Horror Nights, the 2026 season of which runs from 28 August to 1 November at Universal Studios Florida. Three of the five sit inside the event itself, one is a daytime tour of the same haunted houses with the lights on, and one gets you out of Universal Studios Florida entirely and over to Epic Universe. Each entry gives the address, how to reach it without a car, 2026 prices in US dollars with rough euro equivalents, and a Pro Tip.
The ordering is deliberate rather than a ranking of quality. Start with the haunted houses because they set the shape of your night, then the scare zones, which fill the gaps between queues, then the live shows, which are the only sit-down break the event offers. The daytime tour and Epic Universe need days of their own. Halloween Horror Nights 35 is a separately ticketed after-hours event, so nothing in the first three entries is included with a normal park ticket.
Two things worth knowing before you book anything. Universal Orlando strongly advises against bringing anyone under 13, so this is not a family Halloween. And self-parking, normally free after 6 p.m., is not free on event nights unless you hold an Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass, so factor in 32 USD pre-paid or use the free water taxis instead.
1The 10 Haunted Houses of Halloween Horror Nights 35 - The Reason to Come

All 10 haunted houses are new for the 35th anniversary of Universal Orlando Resort and its Halloween event: Stranger Things 5, Sinners, Hellraiser, Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness, Evil Dead Burn, Jack and Oddfellow: Chaos and Control, INVASION: Alien Abduction, H.R. Bloodengutz Presents A Halloween Fright-Tacular, MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals and Cybergoria. Each is a built set you walk through in four to six minutes with live scareactors working the corners.
The wait figures matter more than the themes. Across the 2026 season the houses have averaged 54 minutes, with Ozzy Osbourne at 85 minutes and Sinners at 76, while Stranger Things 5 and Hellraiser run around 41 and 42. On opening night Ozzy peaked at 130 minutes. There is no virtual queue for houses; every one is a physical standby line, and the Universal Orlando app shows live times. Clearing all 10 in a single night without early entry or an Express Pass is not realistic.
Event nights run Wednesday to Sunday through September and close to nightly in October, opening at 6:30 p.m. and closing at 1 a.m. on weeknights or 2 a.m. on peak weekends. Single-night tickets start at 88 USD, roughly 76 EUR, on value weeknights and climb past 130 USD in the last two weeks of October. September Wednesdays and Thursdays are the cheapest and quietest nights with the full lineup open.
Pro Tip: Buy a Scream Early ticket for 70 USD on a weekday and walk in at 2 p.m. Three houses open then, Stranger Things 5, Hellraiser and Jack and Oddfellow, and you can finish all three before general admission arrives, for well under half the 170 to 280 USD an Express Pass costs.
2The Scare Zones and Street Experiences - Where the Event Actually Lives

Four scare zones take over the park's streets in 2026: Infernal Carnival of Nightmares, Downtown Clowntown, Sideshow of Decay and FORTNITEMARES. Unlike the houses these cost you no queue time at all, which makes them the most efficient part of the ticket. They also run continuously, so the same zone at 7 p.m. and at midnight is a different experience once the crowd thins and the performers start working individuals rather than groups.
The street programme goes further than the zones. Mel's Die-In fills the classic diner set with zombies, Chainsaw Hordes roam the backlot, Club Horror runs as a themed party space, and there is a HamiKuma meet-and-greet for anyone who wants a photograph rather than a fright. The detail most people miss is in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where Death Eaters appear among the Diagon Alley shopfronts. It is the only part of the event that uses a permanent, fully dressed land rather than a temporary set, and it delivers the best scare-to-effort ratio of the night.
All of this is included with Halloween Horror Nights 35 admission, and so are the rides that stay open during the event. Scare zones are also where the event's honest downside shows: performers get close, chainsaws are loud, and there is no gentle option. If someone in your group needs an out, the shops and the Diagon Alley interiors are the calm spaces.
Pro Tip: Walk the scare zones between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. while everyone else sprints to the houses, then eat before 7 p.m. Food queues balloon after that, and the zones are worth a second pass after midnight when the performers have space to work.
3Stranger Things Return to Hawkins and Nightmare Fuel Blood Noir - The Two Live Shows

Halloween Horror Nights 35 runs two live shows, and both serve a purpose no marketing copy mentions: they are the only way to sit still for 25 minutes without giving up a place in a queue. Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins plays on the park's central lagoon using water screens, projection and pyrotechnics, which means a large standing audience and no capacity crisis. Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir is the indoor counterpart, a vampire-themed stage show built around dance and stunt work.
Neither needs a separate ticket and neither takes a reservation. The lagoon show is the one to prioritise because it is new for 2026 and because sightlines from the Hollywood and San Francisco waterfronts are generous, so you do not need to arrive 40 minutes early the way you would for an indoor theatre. Blood Noir seats fill for the last two performances of the night, so take an earlier slot.
The honest caveat is that shows are the first thing to cut if you are chasing all 10 houses. On a busy October Saturday, 50 minutes of show time costs you one house. On a September Wednesday, when the event-wide average wait drops toward 36 minutes, you can comfortably do both shows and most of the houses. Plan them around the night you have picked rather than the other way round.
Pro Tip: Watch the lagoon show from the walkway between Mel's Die-In and the San Francisco waterfront. You get the full water-screen effect, you are already beside two scare zones for the walk back, and you avoid the bottleneck that forms on the Hollywood side when the show ends.
4Behind the Screams - The Same Haunted Houses With the Lights On

Behind the Screams: Unmasking the Horror is the entry most Halloween Horror Nights guides ignore, and it is the one that changes how you see the rest. It is a daytime walking tour of the haunted houses with the lights on, no scareactors and no queue, led by a guide who explains how the sets, sound design and scare timing are built. Prices run from 99.99 USD for the three-house version to 229.99 USD for six houses with lunch included, roughly 86 to 198 EUR.
The practical advantage is that it needs no event ticket at all. If you are in Orlando during the Halloween Horror Nights season but do not want to pay 88 USD and queue until 1 a.m., this is the version of the event you can do at 11 in the morning. It is also the only way to look properly at a set: inside a house at night you get four to six minutes of controlled panic and remember almost nothing about the room you were in.
It suits anyone travelling with a nervous teenager, anyone who finds live performers in the dark unpleasant, and anyone with a professional interest in scenic design. The trade-off is worth stating plainly: with the lights on and nobody jumping out, the houses read as impressive craft rather than as frightening. Do the tour and the event on separate days, in that order, and you will get more out of both.
Pro Tip: Book the three-house tour at 99.99 USD rather than the six-house version. Three houses teaches you how the scares are constructed, and the 130 USD difference buys a full event night, which beats paying for lunch.
5Dark Universe and Universal Nights at Epic Universe - The Non-Horror Alternative

Clear up a persistent rumour first: Halloween Horror Nights does not extend to Epic Universe in 2026. Stories to that effect circulated in March and Universal never announced it. What Epic Universe does have is Dark Universe, a permanent Universal Monsters land that opened with the park in 2025, so Frankenstein, the Bride and Van Helsing's Werewolf Research Center are available year round on a standard day ticket rather than an after-hours one.
The dated option is Universal Nights, an after-hours event held on just two evenings in 2026, Saturday 3 and Saturday 17 October, 9 p.m. to midnight, with early entry from 7 p.m. Tickets start at 179.99 USD plus tax, around 155 EUR, and include the attractions, character interactions, complimentary specialty snacks and drinks, and the nighttime show Universal Celestial Goodnight. It is not horror-themed, which is precisely its value inside a Halloween Horror Nights trip.
Three consecutive nights of chainsaws wears people down, and a group rarely agrees on how much horror it wants. Dark Universe gives you monster theming without jump scares at daytime prices, and Universal Nights gives you a low-capacity evening in a park that is normally busy. If your trip covers 3 or 17 October, that is the night to break up the horror; if not, spend a daytime park ticket on Dark Universe instead.
Pro Tip: Do Dark Universe on a Monday or Tuesday, the two nights Halloween Horror Nights does not run in September, so you are not burning an evening you could spend on haunted houses. Epic Universe tickets are dated, so lock the date once your event nights are set.

5 Best Things to Do in Orlando During Halloween Horror Nights - FAQ
No. Three of the five happen inside Halloween Horror Nights 35 at Universal Studios Florida, where the 10 haunted houses have averaged 54 minute waits in 2026, so one night covers houses plus scare zones and perhaps one show. The Behind the Screams daytime tour and Epic Universe need days of their own.
Enter with a Scream Early ticket at 2 p.m. and clear the three houses that open first, then walk the scare zones from 6:30 p.m. while general admission floods the queues. Take a live show around 9 p.m. Save Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness and Sinners for the last 90 minutes, when waits collapse.
Halloween Horror Nights 35 is a separately ticketed after-hours event and a daytime park ticket will not admit you. Scream Early early entry, the Behind the Screams tour and Universal Nights at Epic Universe all need booking ahead, and Universal Nights ran on only two dates in October 2026. Scare zones and live shows are included with event admission.
A value weeknight event ticket starts at 88 USD, Scream Early adds 70 USD, Behind the Screams runs 99.99 to 229.99 USD and Universal Nights at Epic Universe starts at 179.99 USD. Add self parking at 32 USD pre-paid, which is not free after 6 p.m. on event nights. Budget 400 to 600 USD per person, roughly 345 to 520 EUR.
Yes, if you stay on Universal Orlando property. Free water taxis run from Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, Royal Pacific and Sapphire Falls to a CityWalk dock every 15 minutes until 2:30 a.m. Lynx buses reach Universal Boulevard on routes 21, 37 and 40, but stop well before the event closes, so plan a rideshare home.
Universal Orlando sets no age limit and checks no identification, but it strongly advises against under-13s and the event uses extreme gore, chainsaws, strobe lighting and scareactors who come close. This is not a trick-or-treat event. The Behind the Screams daytime tour, walked with the lights on and no performers, is the gentler alternative.
The R.I.P. Tour from around 400 USD per person, which walks all 10 houses with priority entry; the two Premium Scream Night events on 27 August and 19 October 2026 from 399 USD; and the multi-night passes, from 229 USD for Rush of Fear to 449.99 USD for Ultimate Frequent Fear, which undercut two single nights.
