The Seattle Christmas Market returns to Seattle Center from 20 November to 24 December 2026, set at the foot of the Space Needle in the Fisher Pavilion and on the South Fountain Lawn. Unlike European markets, entry is by timed ticket, with children aged six and under free.
This guide covers the Seattle Christmas Market and 4 more festive things to do in Seattle in December, from the free Winterfest train village on the same campus to holiday views from the Space Needle, the Westlake Center tree and Pike Place Market. Each entry has the address, the nearest transit and a Pro Tip.
The order starts at Seattle Center, where the market, Winterfest and the Space Needle sit a few minutes apart, then heads downtown on the Monorail to Westlake Center and Pike Place Market.

1Seattle Christmas Market at Seattle Center - The Main Event

The Seattle Christmas Market, founded in 2023, is modelled on the traditional German Christmas markets and fills the Fisher Pavilion and the South Fountain Lawn at Seattle Center. Last year it featured more than 80 artisan huts selling handmade gifts and decorations, plus German-style food such as bratwurst, pretzels and chimney cakes. Glühwein is served in a collectible market mug.
The market adds rides and family activities, including a carousel, a ski-themed Alpen Haus where families can warm up, a scavenger hunt and visits from the market mascots, Holly and Jolly. Special event nights in recent years have included karaoke, trivia and country music evenings.
Entry is by timed ticket bought online, which keeps crowds manageable but means you need to plan ahead. In 2025, weekday hours started at 4pm, with longer daytime hours at weekends and in the final week before Christmas.
2Seattle Center Winterfest - Free Train Village and Holiday Shows

Winterfest is Seattle Center's free holiday programme, running alongside the Seattle Christmas Market on the same campus. Its best-known attraction is the Winterfest Train and Village, an interactive model railway set in a late 19th-century village, which has delighted Seattle families for decades.
The programme also includes the Winterfest World Bazaar, where international vendors sell holiday gifts, and free entertainment such as comedy, music and dance performances on selected days. Because it is free, Winterfest is a good way to round off a visit for anyone who does not want to buy market tickets for the whole family.
Check the Seattle Center events calendar for 2026 Winterfest dates and show times, which are usually published in the autumn.
3Space Needle - Holiday Views Over the City

The Space Needle, built for the 1962 World's Fair, rises above the Seattle Christmas Market and is the classic way to see the city's lights in December. The observation level, around 160 metres up, has floor-to-ceiling glass and a rotating glass floor called The Loupe, with views over downtown, Elliott Bay and, on clear days, Mount Rainier.
In December the light fades early, so a late-afternoon visit gives you both daylight views and the city lights coming on. The tower is often decorated for the holidays, and the view down onto Seattle Center lets you pick out the market stalls and lights below.
Tickets are timed and priced by time of day; sunset slots are the most popular and sell out on weekends.

4Westlake Center and the Downtown Tree Lighting

Westlake Center and the surrounding Westlake Park are the heart of downtown Seattle's holiday season. The annual tree lighting, held the day after Thanksgiving in recent years, draws large crowds for live music and fireworks, and kicks off weeks of festive decorations in the downtown retail core.
A vintage carousel has traditionally set up in Westlake Park during the holidays, and the surrounding department stores and shopping streets put up elaborate window displays. It is the busiest shopping area in the city in December.
Westlake Center is also the downtown terminus of the Seattle Center Monorail, which links it to the Seattle Christmas Market in about two minutes, making it easy to combine both on the same evening.
5Pike Place Market - Holiday Shopping and Food Gifts

Pike Place Market, open since 1907, is one of the oldest continuously operating public farmers' markets in the United States and a natural stop for holiday shopping in Seattle. Hundreds of farmers, craftspeople and small food businesses sell produce, flowers, fresh seafood, handmade goods and gifts.
In December the market is decorated for the holidays, and it is a good place to pick up local food gifts, from smoked salmon packed for travel to chocolate, jams and coffee. The famous fish throwers at Pike Place Fish Market and the original Starbucks store draw crowds year-round.
The market is busiest on weekend afternoons, and many stalls close by early evening, so plan to visit earlier in the day than the Seattle Christmas Market.
